Shanti enhances the quality of life, health, and well-being of people living with Breast Cancer and HIV/AIDS; and shares over 30 years of experience with organizations nationwide through its training and consultation programs. All volunteers who work directly with clients got through the Shanti Peer Support Volunteer Training, the purpose of which is to prepare volunteers to work with individuals with life-threatening illnesses. The training supplies information about breast cancer and HIV/AIDS & the psychosocial and clinical issues that our clients may be facing; focuses on a non-judgmental, harm-reduction approach to client-volunteer interaction; as well as teaches communication and listening skills through a variety of interactive exercises. All interested persons must complete a pre-training interview before they may begin the training. This interview gives us the chance to get to know one another and gives volunteers an opportunity to learn about Shanti and the different services we provide to our clients.
