Doug Demo

Doug DemoI am grateful to be receiving one of the One Nurse scholarships for my upcoming medical trip to Guatemala. After 17 years in education, like many of my colleagues, I changed careers. My journey has taken me from the ADN program at Raritan Valley Community College to my current enrollment in the MSN-Nursing Education program at Sacred Heart University. Along the way, I worked as a med-surg nurse at Overlook Medical Center and then transitioned to my current job with MedExpress Urgent Care. Although taking graduate classes and working full-time doesn’t leave much free time, I do find moments to sneak away to NYC to see a Broadway show, kick back and listen to country music, volunteer at community health fairs or work as a substitute school nurse. I’m excited to be returning to San Raymundo, Guatemala with Refuge International in October 2014. I wish I could say that I was going back to finish the job that I started a year ago, but the need is great and the resources are limited. However, with the support of ONAAT I can keep the work moving forward. Thank you!
