Nursing services:

Healing the Children’s Medical Teams Abroad Program sends teams of medical professionals overseas to provide on-site surgery and medical care for underserved children. These doctors and nurses volunteer their time and services, pay their own expenses and help arrange for shipments of donated supplies and equipment. The teams usually stay from 7 to 10 days, providing surgery for children as well as health screening and training for local medical providers. The types of surgery vary with each trip according to need and available resources. We partner with the health professionals, Ministry of Health, and /or hospital to coordinate each trip and identify the children in need of services. Each trip takes about nine months to faciliate through the leadership of volunteer team leaders and coordinators.
Recent surgical trips have included orthopedics; hand and burn care; ENT (ear, nose and throat); and podiatry (club foot) corrections. As many as 75 to 100 children may receive surgical services on each trip. Additionally, we host family medical clinic teams (especially to Haiti) providing maternal and child health care, dental services, medical consultations and medications. Our services are free-of-charge. Children who have more acute or critical medical needs are referred to the stateside (international inbound) program either in our chapter or in one of the other HTC chapters.
