Nursing services: | The St. Boniface Haiti Foundation is the only source of healthcare for over 250,000 people in rural Haiti. We treat the poorest of the poor in a remote mountainous area. The St. Boniface Hospital in Fond des Blancs is the center of all our treatment programs. Satellite clinics and mobile outreach programs extend the hospital’s reach to outlying areas. St. Boniface Hospital offers inpatient and outpatient care, 24-hour emergency room and ambulance services, obstetrical and pediatric services, an operating room and a dental clinic. Haitian physicians are augmented by U.S. surgical teams who visit regularly to perform a broad range of general surgery. This year, 50,000 patients will be treated. Some will walk as long as two days to reach the hospital for care. No one is ever turned away. Healthcare programs extend beyond the treatment of illness. Educational programs are offered in nutrition, women and children’s health, HIV/Aids, and other areas. Education is essential to the prevention and treatment of disease and helps to improve the overall health of the people. Immunization clinics for children are held throughout the region and malnourished children and their families are given food in our nutrition program, providing the foundation for healthy children. |
