I ran the lab for our 4 day village clinic and saw about 100 people a day in the lab. Our team saw about 2400 patients in those 4 days. People came from as far away as Belize when they heard there would be medical help in that area for those 4 days. We set up in a school for 2 days, break the clinic down and move to our second village, set back up in the new village’s school and see patients there for 2 days.
In the lab I did finger sticks for glucose and anemia checks and urine dip sticks for pregnancy or infections, glucose, ketones and many other things. There is great need for medical help in Guatemala and the people are some of the most gracious, loving people I have ever met. This is my 7th trip to Guatemala with Faith in Practice and although I’ve been home less than a week I miss them already and will return again.
