I am grateful to be receiving one of the One Nurse scholarships for my upcoming medical trip to Guatemala. After 17 years in education, like many of my colleagues, I changed careers. My journey has taken me from the ADN program at Raritan Valley Community College to my current enrollment in the MSN-Nursing Education program at Sacred Heart University. Along the way, I worked as a med-surg nurse at Overlook Medical Center and then transitioned to my current job with MedExpress Urgent Care. Although taking graduate classes and working full-time doesn’t leave much free time, I do find moments to sneak away to NYC to see a Broadway show, kick back and listen to country music, volunteer at community health fairs or work as a substitute school nurse. I’m excited to be returning to San Raymundo, Guatemala with Refuge International in October 2014. I wish I could say that I was going back to finish the job that I started a year ago, but the need is great and the resources are limited. However, with the support of ONAAT I can keep the work moving forward. Thank you!
